Business analysis and benchmarking

For a thorough business analysis we have developed a special tool which is called the IPLC Quick Scan. This standardised analysis, combined with our knowledge and experience in the Private Label industry, enables IPLC consultants to understand where a company currently stands in the market place. Along a proven methodology a client’s key employees from various departments would be interviewed, using a comprehensive questionnaire. To support this, relevant internal documents used within the business, are analysed. The purpose of the study is to take stock of the processes, procedures and indicators used. Subsequently, a comparison is made with what leading and successful Private Label manufacturers experience as best practice. Based upon the insight generated from the IPLC Quick Scan recommendations are formulated to improve the operational performance. If required the analysis can be extended to examination of the company’s strategy, launching and commercialization of new products plus analysis of the existing portfolio of activities. IPLC can also play a role in the implementation of the proposed advice

Market analysis and business planning

Using our own consultant’s experience and extensive network in the industry we conduct market analysis projects. In addition to this we have built a vast database over the years providing insight into relevant and up-to-date information. This will be valuable information for strategic decision making and business planning.

Assistance in mergers and takeovers

In practically every product category there is overcapacity in the Private Label manufacturing. Over the past decade this has led to a surge in mergers and takeovers. Consolidation of the private label manufacturing industry has created large professional players who, often on a pan-European scale, work side-by-side with retailers. IPLC has been involved in numerous projects in which assistance was provided in competition and market analysis or commercial due diligence.

Market assessment
The Private Label market is far less transparent than that of national brands. In a merger or takeover, it is therefore essential to collect as much information as possible in the preliminary phase. In various projects the database of IPLC has proved to be a valuable source of information. We could offer access to qualitative and quantitative market information as well as insight in the competition landscape.

Commercial due diligence
Because manufacturers in the Private Label industry generally work with annual supply contracts, it is of vital importance in case of a merger or takeover to have good insight into the quality and sustainability of the manufacturer’s turnover. IPLC can make an important contribution to the analysis of this. On the one hand by examining contracts, customers files and other relevant documentation, on the other hand, by means of interviews with management and if required with the manufacturer’s retail buyers. Valuable material is thus obtained to assess the ultimate value and purchase price of a company or to have a plan of action ready if the transaction is successfully completed.
